    What's in a name?

     about naming babies.

After reading this article i realized that the pattern that John and i have followed, is naming our children after other family members in one way or another.

    1. Cameron- full name is Cameron David John Goleski. Cameron is my maternal grandparents surname. This name was going to be used whether it was a boy or a girl. David is my step-fathers middle name. John was for my husband and his father (being sr. and jr.). This is the most obvious use of other family names that we have used.
    2. Victoria- full name is Victoria Katherine Goleski. John's grandfather was named Frank Victor and i have an Uncle Victor. I told John no way will i name a boy Victor in this day and age but i will name a girl Victoria. Katherine we picked just because we liked the way it sounded with Victoria.....we were later informed by my father-in-law that John has an Aunt Katherine. Go figure
    3. This baby gender yet unknown- For a boy full name will be Patrick Allan Goleski. This is also the name we had picked if Victoria had been a boy. Patrick being the masculine form of my mothers name (Patricia), and Allan is John and his fathers middle name. For a girl full name will be Elizabeth Ann Goleski. Elizabeth is just a name we like (John likes it because it is a regal name...think Queen Victoria....Queen Elizabeth), and Ann is my mothers middle name.

How did you come up with the names for your children? Have you followed any patterns?

Was talking with my mother the other day and she told me what name she had always liked as a child! Scared me! As i am the first born! It was Mergatroid Alowishis! Thank God she outgrew that!
My husband named our son Jacob just because he liked the name. He didn't even think about the J part until i complained!
A lot of good that did me!
    Keep Well!

haha no doubt he was happy. When was your due date for him? Did he name him Jacob more because he likes it or because it's a J name or maybe a little of both?

Yes i do know people who name their kids with the same letter. It was all girls and they were Catherine, Christine, Colleen and Caroline. But the one that makes me laugh is a niece of my husbands! She is Julie the husband is Jeff and the kids are Justin and Jack! The whole family on my husbands side has at least one child whos name starts with J. If i had realized that Jacob would be something different today. He was born at the end of October. I told my hubby that if he came on Halloween that i was going to name him Damien! LOL Boy was he happy when he came on the 26th!

I named my daughter Brittany Louise, after a little girl i saw on David Letterman. Believe it or not! The name was not a popular one at the time and i liked how it sounded with Louise. Louise is my maternal grandmothers name. She was the best and I always said i would name my first girl after her.
As for my son Jacob Douglas, i had no choice. I told my husband he could name him as i had got to name Britt all by myself. Jacob is because my husband likes it and Douglas is after his father.
But now everywhere i turn the kids are a Brittany or a Jacob. I wanted nice but different. Didn't last long.
I find most people name after family. Usually as a second name. Unless of course you are my idiot sister-in-law!
Her son is Addison Harris Algar! Addison is her mom's maiden name, Harris is my mother's maiden name and Algar is the family name! The poor kid has no name of his own. Gets picked on all the time and she wonders why he has no sense of self! I like the names you have picked for the new baby! What nationality is Goleski? I would guess but i suck at that and don't want to offend someone by mistake!
Do you know anyone who names their kids with names that all start with the same letter? Seems popular out here!
