    She wants her checkmarks

Todays Mood(s): Optimistic, Ecstatic, Happy, and Excited

pottytraingirla1.gif picture by raspberrykiss99 Yep, Elizabeth is potty training. At first it was hard to get her to go regularly, but she's getting better and more enthusiastic about it everyday. Because..... she wants to mark her own checkmarks on her very own chart. We printed it especially for her (it even has Dora on it because Dora is her favourite thing) and pinned it up so she can reach it herself. She is seeing everyone else getting checkmarks on the other charts, so she is excited about getting her own. Today she did awesome! First thing this morning was "Mommy i need a checkmark" so off we went to the potty and she did it right away! She came to me four times to do it today and managed to stay in the same undergarments all day! So i'm optimistic we'll be able to keep this up (because that's already two more times than she came to me yesterday), and soon she'll be ready for her "big girl panties", which are ready and waiting. Now...if only I could get the checkmarks to work as well as this at getting her to go to bed on time Eye-rolling

    Finally...... ;)

Elizabeth has finally calmed down this week. It's no wonder now why she was so cranky though......her bottom two teeth decided to come at the same time! They finally started to break through at the end of last week. Because I have been waiting so long for her to finally get some teeth, I was very excited to see those two little white nubby things poking through. However, I was not so excited before I saw them.....when she chomped down on my finger! Ouch that hurt.

Elizabeth's appetite has also grown alot. She's eating way more than she used to. When we were over at a friends this weekend, she swore Elizabeth had grown quite a bit. It had only been a little less than a week since she had seen her last. So I think she must be going through a growth spurt too.

Cameron and Victoria are both doing well. They are getting excited because it's almost time for summer break. Victoria has a few field trips coming up this month. One is to the Zoo and the other is to the Science Center, and she's so excited about them. Cameron is working on a project for a school business fair next year. He's programming a game. He's putting a lot of work into it and really enjoying it. I get to be one of his game testers, so I am having some fun with it too.

Some other exciting days are coming up for us soon. John's birthday is on Tuesday, and then on the 12th is our wedding anniversary!

I hope everyone is doing well!

    Eight months old

Wow, it's May 5th already! Elizabeth is exactly eight months old today! I can't believe how far we have come. From being the tiny little thing she weighed in at 5lbs 3ozs, to being just over 21lbs today! I remember how much it tore me up having to leave her at the hospital until she weighed enough to come home. It was only two days after I came home, but it felt like forever to me. The first day we visited it was so hard to leave. We had gotten her to sleep, but as we were leaving to come home, she woke up and started crying. We heard her from where we were at the end of the hallway, it was like she knew we were leaving. When we were at home, we spent a lot of time on the phone with the NICU checking to see how she was. We were excited on the second day when we were told she might be allowed to come home that day. I couldn't wait for John to get home from work so we could go get her! When we arrived the nurse instructed us how to place blankets between her and her carseat buckle (so she didn't slide around in it and was held in securely because she was so small) and she had to pass a carseat test to make sure she didn't stop breathing...We had to stay at the hospital for 1 and a 1/2 hours while she sat in the carseat. I don't think I had ever hoped so hard for one of my kids to pass a test. I didn't want to go home without her again! Wow...how much she has grown since then!

    ~ ~ Just for Fun ~ ~

I got this in an email a few days ago and had fun with it. Apparently this is an IQ test given to job applicants in Japan: "Everybody has to cross the river."

    The IQ Test Rules are:

    • Only two persons on the raft at a time.
    • The father cannot stay with any of the daughters without their mother's presence.
    • The mother cannot stay with any of the sons without their father's presence.
    • The thief (striped shirt) cannot stay with any family member if the policeman is not there.
    • Only the Father, Mother, and the Policeman know how to operate the raft.
    • To move the people, click on them.
    • To move the raft click on the pole on the opposite side of the river.

To try it go here. To start the test click on the blue circle.

    We are definitly mobile!

Ok so we have become mobile! Only she has not quite got it yet. Elizabeth has decided for the moment that the way to get around is by doing the "pull and drag". You know how it goes, she "pulls" herself with her arms and just "drags" the rest of her body. Sometimes she will throw in a push with her foot to get an extra bit farther along, in her effort to get a toy or wherever it is she is trying to go. Yesterday morning I was in the kitchen making some muffins (Banana ones, yummy :) ) and I turned around to discover that she had made it all the way from the living room to the kitchen! It was so cute looking down and seeing her little head peeking around the corner of the wall at me. I looked down at her and asked "Did you come to see mommy?" and she got all excited got this big smile on her face, I mean really how could my heart not just melt right there? I know she couldn't have been coming for the muffins. We learned that the first time we tried to give her some bananas. Her face puckered up like I had just given her a taste of a pickle, then she kindly spit it back at me and refused to open her mouth again. Tried to hide some in her cereal the next morning.....all I got after the first taste was a look that said "Really mommy how stupid do you think I am?" and a refusal of a second taste. I do have to say that both John and I were astounded by this. How could she NOT like bananas? It's not like they are tart or anything like that, so we thought that would be a great fruit for her to start with. But we were apparently very wrong. Sometimes as I watch her, I start thinking that she may just start pulling herself up before she actually starts crawling. Her little push-ups have become her getting up on her hands and feet forming an upside down V. But time will tell I guess. I'm still waiting to hear her say Mama. She says Dada all the time in her baby babbling moments (not actually looking at Daddy and saying it yet though). Of course, Cameron reminds me that "It is much easier for babies to form the "Da" sound than form the "Ma" sound which is why that is usually their first word". Oh the joys of having a 12 year old logical thinker in the house! I will have to tell you some stories about him sometime..... But in the meantime I will keep hoping to hear Mama soon anyway!

Ok, now it's time for a:

    ~ ~ Joke of the Day ~ ~

Two old guys are pushing their carts around Wal-Mart when they collide.

The first old guy says to the second guy, "Sorry about that. I'm looking for my wife, and I guess I wasn't paying attention to where I was going."

The second old guy says, "That's OK, it's a coincidence. I'm looking for my wife, too. I can't find her and I'm getting a little desperate."

"Well, maybe I can help you find her. What does she look like?"

"Well, she is 27 years old, tall, with red hair, blue eyes, long legs, big
busted, and she's wearing a see-thru blouse and really short shorts"

"What does your wife look like?"

"Doesn't matter, let's look for yours".

And I know it's been a while since I had one of these but I came across this as I was looking for Unicorn pictures so I thought I would include it today as a:

    Growing to fast!

    babyuni.jpg

Well my baby is growing faster than I want to say. She is now eating solid foods quite well, and my guess is in the next few weeks she will be crawling around. Why do I think this? Well she has been doing push-ups. She pushes up on her arms and the only part of her body touching the floor is her toes. Cameron did that too just before he started crawling. She also gets on all fours and just stays that way. A lot of the time she will rock back and forth but....as soon as she figures out if she moves an arm and a leg, then the other.....well there really will be no stopping her!

Bathtime has become a lot of fun though. She likes to play with her bath toys now.....well ok, she attempts to eat them, but they don't just float around anymore! Honestly I think that I have more fun with her bath toys than she does. She recieved some bath toys that squirt for Christmas, and well the other day after her bath, Cameron looked like he had had one too *looks around innocently* ;)

I am happy that she is growing and developing well, but at the same time I am sad about it. She is my last baby and I know this. I don't want to miss anything that she will do for the first time. I am not sure if I want to go back to work at all. It sometimes feels like if I blink she will be all grown up and I will have missed it all. Next winter she will be finding her legs, learning how to walk...which will be around the time I am supposed to return to work.....

    September 26

    Time goes by to quickly!

Well time is flying by it seems. I can hardly believe Elizabeth is three weeks old today. Her face is filling out already, and she's crying real tears now when she cries. She reminds me of the way Cameron was when he was a baby, because she will sleep contently if she is being held.....but the minute we put her down she is wide awake. She likes going in her swing though. I don't know if it's just the rocking motion or the music...but she'll sit in there quite happily for almost an hour! It gives me a way to keep her awake through at least part of the day too. It's funny how we get to the end of our pregnancies and we can't wait for it to be over and hold our baby, and when they are finally here, it seems like time passes to quickly!

The kids are almost done their first month of school already too!  Before i know it, it will be November and their birthdays will be here!! Cameron has already had school pictures done, and Victoria gets hers done on wednesday. At least Victoria has had no problems adjusting to her new school this year. Cameron is also enjoying being back in the gifted program and is doing well, the only thing he doesn't like is the hour long bus ride he has to take each way lol.

    September 19

    Two weeks old today

Well we had our first doctors appointment on friday and things are good. Elizabeth weighed 5lbs 13 ozs so she is gaining well. Her cord came off on friday too so she got to have her first full bath........she was NOT impressed with me about that!! I had forgotten how much work it was to hold on to a squirming, crying, WET baby. But at least she's clean now .  She is starting to wake more through the day now which is a good thing. As much as i love watching her sleep and seeing those little gassy smiles they have before they have their first real one.......I get to look into her eyes more and talk to her longer during the day when i'm fully awake, instead of at night when i'm half asleep.

    Son Graduated Grade 6

Well my son graduated from grade six today. The school held a family picnic before the celebration assembly. I can hardly believe that i have a child entering Jr. High in September!! Makes me feel old even though i'm only 29 lol. In a way i am glad though, because he's back in the G.A.T.E. program so i won't hear "i'm bored" anymore. He'll be getting the challenge he needs to keep him interested, and he'll be with other kids who think like he does and share the same sense of humor. It's kinda sad really when your 11 year old gets along better with adults than with children his own age. He doesn't make friends easily because he thinks so much higher than they do. I'm hoping with this opportunity for him to be around kids who are as smart as he is, that he'll make some friends his own age rather than my age lol. Congratulations Cameron on completing the first six years of school.
